The Super Tuscan
The term “Super Tuscan” refers to a Tuscan red wine that does not follow the rules implemented by the region, making these wines unable to qualify for DOC classification. Typically wines that do not conform to the regulations of the appellation are termed “vino da tavola”, meaning table wine and essentially a lesser quality of wine.
The Super Tuscans are similar to the traditional Chianti Classico in that the predominate grape is Sangiovese; however, they differ in that Supers Tuscans are blended with Bordeaux varietals, such as Cabernet sauvignon, where as the traditional Chianti are not and require a certain percentage of white grapes to be blended into the wine.
Hearthstone’s Profundo
The Profundo is our Super Tuscan style wine, which has Sangiovese as the main grape blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Our 2007 vintage has aromas of black-cherry cola and oak are prevalent in this quaff. The upfront acidity from the Sangiovese, the earthy and spicy toast with a hint of vanilla, berry and leather lead to a mouth watering jubilee of flavors. The finish is smooth, lingering and exciting! This New World Super Tuscan wine will pair with tomato based foods, braised chicken or rabbit, accompanied with grilled veggie side dishes, such as zucchini and mushrooms.
